Google AI Overviews Tracker

Google AI Overviews appear above the blue links. See, prompt by prompt and country by country, if Google cites your pages or your competitors'.

SEOcrawl AI runs your prompts as real Google searches, captures the full AI Overview with its sources and tells you whether your domain is cited. Then it compares the same prompt with AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity.

What we track in AI Overviews

Three questions for every prompt, every run.

1

Does Google show an AI Overview?

Google doesn't show one for every search. We record how often it appears for each prompt, and runs without an AI Overview are left out of your rate instead of counting as a loss.

2

Does it cite you?

Only the list of cited sources counts. The overview usually repeats the words of the query, so a brand name in its text would inflate your score. We ignore it on purpose.

3

Which URLs and competitors does it cite?

Every cited domain and URL is stored, so you can see which of your pages earn the citation and which competitors take it when you don't.

Key Features

The same AI Tracker your team already uses, with AI Overviews next to every other AI.

AI Overviews Citation Rate

Your AI Overviews visibility as one number, with its trend and its breakdown by topic. Spot the topics where Google cites you and the ones where it never does.

Competitors Cited Instead

See which brands Google cites for the same prompts and how your share of voice moves week after week against each of them.

Cited Sources

Open any AI Overview to read the full answer and the exact domains and URLs it cites. It is the shortest path to knowing which pages to improve or where to get mentioned.

One Prompt, Six AIs

The same prompt runs in AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. Compare where you are cited and where you are missing without changing tools.

AI Overviews vs AI Mode

Two Google AI surfaces that answer differently, so they are measured differently.

Where it appears

Google AI OverviewsAbove the classic results on a normal Google search, and only for some queries.

Google AI ModeIn its own AI Mode tab of Google Search, as a conversation. It answers every query.

Answer format

Google AI OverviewsA short summary with a list of source links.

Google AI ModeA longer, conversational answer with inline citations.

What counts as visibility

Google AI OverviewsYour domain in the cited sources. Brand names in the text are ignored, because the overview repeats the query.

Google AI ModeYour brand named in the answer or your domain cited.

Cadence

Google AI OverviewsDaily, weekly or monthly, per prompt.

Google AI ModeDaily, weekly or monthly, per prompt.

Cost

Google AI Overviews1 prompt credit per answer.

ChessKid, “best chess app for kids”

Google AI Overviewschesskid.com cited in 6 of 6 AI Overviews (Aug–Oct 2026).

Google AI ModeChessKid named “best overall”, but the sources cited were third-party reviews (first run, 25 Oct 2026).

How it works

  1. 01

    Write the search

Each prompt is the query a buyer types into Google, such as “best chess app for kids”. File it under a topic to read results by theme.

  2. 02

    Pick country, language and cadence

Choose where and in which language the search runs, and whether it runs daily, weekly or monthly. Weekly runs follow the ISO week.

  3. 03

    Read citations and competitors

Check citations, sources and competitors in the app, or ask for them from Claude or ChatGPT through the SEOcrawl AI MCP.

Real example

ChessKid in Google AI Overviews

Prompt: “What is the best chess app for kids?” (United States, English, weekly).

6 / 6AI Overviews cite chesskid.com

Between 24 August and 19 October 2026, Google showed an AI Overview for this prompt six times, and chesskid.com was among the cited sources every time. In the other three weeks Google showed no AI Overview, and those runs don't count against ChessKid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Isn't Google Search Console enough to track AI Overviews?

No. Search Console blends AI Overviews impressions into your normal Search data and doesn't tell you which sources an overview cited or which competitors it chose. SEOcrawl AI captures the AI Overview itself, prompt by prompt, with its full list of sources.

How often are the prompts checked?

You choose per prompt: daily, weekly or monthly. Weekly runs follow the ISO week, so every week is comparable with the previous one.

How much does it cost?

Each AI Overviews answer uses 1 prompt credit (1 prompt = 1 answer from 1 AI). Every plan includes weekly prompts for all AIs: Starter 250, Growth 1,250, Pro 2,500, Agency 6,000 and Enterprise 15,000+.

Why is there sometimes no AI Overview?

Google doesn't show an AI Overview for every search, and it can change from one week to the next. In our August–September 2026 sample, about 1 in 6 runs had no AI Overview. Those runs are left out of your citation rate, so they never count against you.

Do brand mentions in the AI Overview text count?

No. An AI Overview usually repeats the words of the query, so a brand that appears in the question would also appear in the answer. To keep the metric honest, only a citation of your domain counts as visibility in AI Overviews.

Which countries and languages can I track?

You set the country and language for each prompt. If Google doesn't show AI Overviews in that market or for that query, the run simply doesn't count against you.

Can I read the full AI Overview?

Yes. In the app every run stores the full answer with its sources and citations. Through the MCP you get the first 600 characters of each answer plus the full list of cited sources.

Can I check AI Overviews from Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes. Connect the SEOcrawl AI MCP and ask, for example, “Which of my prompts were cited in Google AI Overviews this week?”. The assistant reads the AI Overviews runs and their citations straight from your project.

Where does the data come from?

We run each prompt as a live Google search for the country and language you set and store the AI Overview Google returns. No synthetic estimates and no modelled visibility.
