Free Sitemap Finder & Checker: validate any XML sitemap in seconds
Paste a sitemap URL (or a homepage — we'll find it) and we verify every URL returns 200 in a single hop. Catches broken canonicals, redirect chains, noindex pages, and sitemap-index parsing issues. No sign-up.
Free, no sign-up. We check up to 100 URLs per sitemap. Submit a homepage and we'll auto-discover /sitemap.xml and any indices it references.
What the sitemap checker validates
URL status codes (200, 301, 404, 5xx)
URLs canonicalized to a different path
Broken links and redirect chains
XML structure and formatting errors
Pages with noindex included in the sitemap
Missing or incorrectly formatted lastmod tags
Sitemap index files and their child sitemaps
The most common sitemap errors — and how to fix them
4xx URLs in sitemap: the page was deleted or moved but the sitemap wasn't updated.
Fix: remove the URL or replace it with the new destination.
301 redirects inside sitemap: sitemaps should only list canonical, final URLs.
Fix: replace every redirect with its destination URL.
noindex pages listed: a direct contradiction — you're telling Google to index it and not to at the same time.
Fix: remove noindex pages from the sitemap, or drop the noindex tag.
Wrong lastmod format: must be ISO 8601 (YYYY-MM-DD).
Fix: correct the date format in your CMS template or sitemap generator.
Sitemap exceeds Google's limits: 50,000 URLs or 50MB uncompressed per file.
Fix: split into a sitemap index with multiple child sitemaps.

FAQs
What is SEOcrawl's Sitemap Finder & Checker?
A free tool that analyses your XML sitemap and detects errors affecting how Google indexes your site. Paste your sitemap URL and get a full report in seconds without the need for an account.
How can I use the sitemap checker?
Paste your sitemap URL (e.g. yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml) or your homepage, and we'll find the sitemap automatically via robots.txt. Hit “Check Sitemap” and you'll see detected errors, invalid URLs, redirects and recommendations within seconds.
What errors does it detect?
URLs returning 4xx or 5xx responses, 3xx redirects, pages with noindex, URLs canonicalized to another path, invalid XML formatting, missing lastmod tags, and broken links. Everything Google might skip or penalize during a crawl.
Why does sitemap validation matter for SEO?
The sitemap is the guide Googlebot uses to discover and index your URLs. Errors in it waste crawl budget on invalid pages and leave important ones unindexed, which directly reduces your organic visibility.
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
This tool is a free web generator, nothing to install or clone. If you need API access or a self-hosted version, that's available inside the SEOcrawl platform.
How is this different from Google Search Console?
GSC tells you whether Google could read your sitemap and how many URLs were submitted, but it doesn't break down issues URL by URL in real time. This checker catches errors before Google sees them, which is the point.
What types of sitemaps does it support?
Standard XML sitemaps and sitemap index files. If your sitemap index references child sitemaps, the checker follows them and validates the full structure automatically.
