Want your site to appear in Google searches? The Squarespace Google Search Console integration is simpler than you think. Once verified, you get a direct line to how Google is crawling and indexing your pages — which queries bring impressions, which URLs are in the index, and where the opportunities are. This guide covers the built-in integration (works on every plan), the Code Injection method for Business plans and above, and the handful of issues most Squarespace sites run into.

How to connect Squarespace to Google Search Console (built-in integration)

This is the easiest method and works on all current Squarespace plans.

  1. In your Squarespace dashboard, go to Marketing > SEO.
  2. Open the SEO Settings panel and scroll down until you see the Google Search Console section.
  3. In a new tab, go to Google Search Console > Add property, enter your site URL, and select HTML tag.
  4. Copy only the code value — the string after content=, not the full tag.
  5. Paste the code in the Google Search Console field in Squarespace and click Save.
  6. Go back to Google Search Console and click Verify.

Important: Paste only the content string, not the full <meta> tag. Pasting the whole tag is the single most common reason the verify button fails.

How to verify Google Search Console on Squarespace via HTML tag

Use this method if you need to drop the full verification <meta> tag in the site <head>, or if the built-in field isn't picking up your code.

  1. Get the HTML verification tag: go to Google Search Console > Add property, enter your site URL, select HTML tag, and copy the full meta tag.
  2. In your Squarespace dashboard, go to Settings > Advanced > Code Injection.
  3. Paste the full meta tag in the Header field and click Save.
  4. Go back to Google Search Console and click Verify.

Important: Code Injection requires a Business plan or higher. If you're on Personal, use the built-in integration above.

Common problems connecting Squarespace to Google Search Console

Here are the most common issues Squarespace users run into when connecting to Google Search Console, and how to fix them.

Code Injection not available

Code Injection requires a Business plan or higher. If you're on a lower plan, use the built-in integration via Marketing > SEO instead. It's available on all Squarespace plans and doesn't require any code access.

Your Squarespace sitemap is not showing up in Google Search Console

Squarespace generates your sitemap automatically at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. If it's not showing up, confirm your custom domain is active and submit it manually in Google Search Console > Indexing > Sitemaps.

www vs. non-www property mismatch

Make sure you verify the same version of your domain that Squarespace uses as primary. To check, go to Settings > Domains in Squarespace. Verifying the wrong version means GSC won't collect data correctly.

Make the most of your Squarespace SEO data with SEOcrawl

Once verified, SEOcrawl pulls your Google Search Console data and turns it into actionable insights: keyword tracking, traffic drops, indexing issues and more, all in one place.

FAQs

How do I connect Squarespace to Google?

To connect Squarespace to Google, go to Marketing > SEO in your Squarespace dashboard, find the Google Search Console section, paste your verification code, and save. Then click Verify in Google Search Console.

How do I verify my Squarespace site in Google Search Console?

The easiest method to verify your Squarespace site in Google Search Console is the built-in integration via Marketing > SEO. If that's not available on your plan, use Code Injection under Settings > Advanced, or verify via DNS record through your domain registrar.

Does Squarespace automatically integrate with Google Search Console?

Yes. Squarespace has a native integration with Google Search Console available from the Marketing > SEO panel. If it's not visible, use the Code Injection method instead.

To get your Squarespace website to appear in Google, verify your site in Google Search Console, submit your sitemap at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml, and make sure your pages are not set to Hide from search engines in Squarespace's page settings.

I've spent the last 10+ years completely obsessed with SEO — and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

My career hit a new level when I worked as a senior SEO specialist for Chess.com — one of the top 100 most visited websites on the entire internet. Operating at that scale, across millions of pages, dozens of languages, and one of the most competitive SERPs out there, taught me things no course or certification ever could. That experience changed my perspective on what great SEO really looks like — and it became the foundation for everything I've built since.

From that experience, I founded SEO Alive — an agency for brands that are serious about organic growth. We're not here to sell dashboards and monthly reports. We're here to build strategies that actually move the needle, combining the best of classical SEO with the exciting new world of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) — making sure your brand shows up not just in Google's blue links, but inside the AI-generated answers that ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews are delivering to millions of people every single day.

And because I couldn't find a tool that handled both of those worlds properly, I built one myself — SEOcrawl, an enterprise SEO intelligence platform that brings together rankings, technical audits, backlink monitoring, crawl health, and AI brand visibility tracking all in one place. It's the platform I always wished existed.
